It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of GGHG WW II Veteran, Cpl. Doug Coombes, on Monday February 22 in the Orangeville General Hospital. Doug died peacefully in his sleep following a brief illness due to respiratory complications and heart problems. He w as in his 89th year.
Doug had always been an ardent supporter of the GGHG Association and was featured on the front cover of the w inter 2009 issue of the Regimental Lines and recognized for his continued support of his Regiment through donations to the Association. He was one member of an ever shrinking group of GGHG WW II Veterans who kept his ties with this Regiment strong and he will be missed.
Doug’s family has indicated that he will be cremated and a memorial event to celebrate is life will be held in the spring followed by his interment.
