Robertson, Gardner Thomas (8 Feb 12)
Died peacefully February 8, 2012 at Ian Anderson House in Oakville with his family by his side. Gard is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years Jene; daughter Kathryn Mitchell; son Ian (Claire Collins)and daughter Jane (Vince) Chiricosta. Gard was born in Toronto on April 25, 1926, son of Sarah and Thomas Robertson and grew up in the Danforth area. He served at a very young age in the Royal Canadian Navy in WWII and later joined the Governor General’s Horse Guards. Following graduation from the University of Toronto, he served in the Royal Canadian Dragoons. After a brief stint teaching high school in Collingwood, he moved into the corporate world, joining the Ford Motor Co. in Oakville. In 1966, he moved to Montreal and joined the Bank of Montreal, where he had a successful career in Human Resources. In 1978, Gard and his family returned to Toronto for the remainder of his career. He was happy spending time with family and friends in Oakville and at his Muskoka cottage.
A funeral service was held at Knox Presbyterian Church in Oakville on Saturday, February 11th. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Doctors Without Borders, (www.msf.ca) or Ian Anderson House
