Hartley, LCpl. Thomas William (8 May 00)

Age 88

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of GGHG WW II Veteran and Association Member, Lance Corporal Thomas William Hartley on May 8, 2010 in the ICU unit of the “Greater Niagara General Hospital” He was in his 89th year.

Lance Corporal Hartley saw action with the GGHG in Italy and Europe during the War and served under Col Jordan from 1943 through May 1946. He was one of the many “D-Day Dodgers” who slugged it out through Italy and then France into Belgium and into Germany. Following the cessation of hostilities he accompanied Col. Jordan through much of northern Europe and southern France during the period in which boundaries were restored and the rebuilding process began. Some may remember Thomas attending the “GGHG” “D-Day” dinner hosted by the Ontario Regiment at the Oshawa armoury.

The GGHG Association sends its deepest condolences to Elizabeth, his wife of more than 66 years and his children Leighton (Barbara) and Marybeth (Brent). A funeral service and interment was held on Wednesday May 12, 2010 in Niagara Falls.
