Edwards, Capt. Gordon Kenneth (21 Mar 10)

Age 88

Gordon Kenneth Edwards, WW II Veteran – 5th Armoured Division Member of The Governor General’s Horse Guards passed away on Sunday, March 21, 2010, in Kanata, Ontario at the age of 88.

Capt. Edwards was the oldest surviving former RSM of the GGHG, serving as WO1/RSM during the mid-fifties.  This is a watershed moment in the Regimental history as Gordon represented the last former RSM of the Regiment who saw WW II service.  Capt. Edwards was a very strong supporter of the WOs & Sgts Mess and was active with the Association until he became immobile some ten years ago.

His concern for the continuity of the Regiment was always very much a part of his character, encouraging young soldiers to continue their service to their Regiment and to their country whenever he attended Regimental functions.

Gord work for McGuinness Distilleries after the war.  He was called upon on many occasions to supply Regimental Functions on very short notice…He was – Nulli Secundus

A Service in Memory of Gordon was held Wednesday, March 24, 2010 in St. Paul’s Anglican Church, 20 Young Road, Kanata
