Chalmers, George McGregor (24 Jan 15)

Age 94

It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of George McGregor Chalmers at St. Joseph’s Health Centre on Saturday January 24, 2015 at the age of 94, following a valiant struggle with congestive heart failure. His loving wife Mary with whom he shared 67 years of marriage passed away last April. He is survived by his children  Ron (Iolanda) and Patty (Walter).

George joined the Governor General’s Horse Guards in 1941 and served as a tank driver for four and a half years with the Regiment in the Italian campaign and Holland. He was selected by the GGHG Association as a Delegate to Holland for the 60th anniversary of the Liberation of Holland. In his last appearance at the 2013 Memorial Dinner, George was given the honour of reading the Roll of Honour and that was his last appearance with the Regiment.

Interment followed at Prospect Cemetery. As expressions of sympathy, donations to Heart and Stroke Foundation would be greatly appreciated.

On behalf of all Members of the Governor General’s Horse Guards Association, I offer our deepest condolences to Ron, Patty and all of the Chalmers family at this time of great loss.
